I am always interested in a person's actual place in a hierarchy, which is why exact titles fascinate me: Hair, of the Massachusetts State Police was appointed 'deputy state constable', but there is no mention of the 'state constable' to whom he was deputy. Was that just an honorary position, perhaps filled ex officio by the attorney-general or a subordinate? Things I need to know...

    And the cannibalism in early Soviet Russia is horrifying. I've read about it before. A dozen years later, the Soviet government was deliberately starving millions of people to death in the 'horror famine'. The ways of government are mystifying, and usual evil.
