Newspaper Clipping of the Day

This latest installment of the "Boston Post's" "Famous Cats of New England" is Trusty, Boston's cutest jailbird:
Born in jail and serving a life sentence is Trusty, the Charles street jail cat. Never a parole has been granted this foot padded little slayer of rats, never a foot has she set beyond the barred confines of the prison. She has "done" seven years already.

Murderers, robbers, inebriates, some of the most celebrated criminals of the last seven years and hundreds upon hundreds of petty offenders have known Trusty. Into their cells she has gone at will; sometimes in the still of the midnight, edging her way through the bars and landing with a cheery little "p-r-r-r-r-r" of greeting beside some sleepless figure on a cot. She makes no distinction as to the degree of crime in which her bedfellow has been involved. To Trusty whether they are old men or young boys, rough degraded creatures that once were women or young girls paying penalty for first offence, it does not seem to matter. They are human companions and she drives joy from being with them.

Not a single case of mistreatment has Trusty met in all these years' experience with those that are put behind prison bars for the safeguarding of society. The big gray and white cat is welcomed by each new arrival of the jail's floating population. Glad recognition comes from those who are rebooked, for Trusty is remembered as of the things that made the jail a bit more delightful during previous stays.

  1. I like the name. "Trusty" is a good name for a jail-cat.

  2. It makes me happy-sad to see these pictures of lost kitties from the past, who look so much like kitties I have known and loved. This one looks just like my Patches, who went MIA a couple years ago.

  3. In jail - now that's an indoor cat.
