A good thing, too. The idea of the Assyrian substitute-king is actually a rather good idea, from the standpoint of an ancient civilisation; rather ingenious. And, depending on the substitute's point of view and beliefs, not a bad way to go, either. And Mr Alexander's life in an iron-lung would be very sad - if he hadn't turned out to have a more fulfilling life than most people. The witness who claimed to see them get into another car might have been mistaken. It's also possible that they hitched a lift to get away and then tried to walk back to their car when they thought it was safe, or when they got worried about Tracy, and expired on the way.

Their bodies froze and were preserved by the cold until the spring thaw. The melting snow and ice then flowed into the ditch and carried their remains with it, with a clump of Ruby's hair coming loose on the way. The fact that one was much more decomposed than the other means that they were not both flushed out of the snow and ice at the same time, which suggests that they did not die in the same place. Presumably, one collapsed and the other carried on, desperately looking for help.

The fact that their bodies ended up near the site of the accident is probably not a coincidence. If there were gullies or channels that water flowed through to reach that location during the spring melt, then that would also be the easiest path to follow for anybody who was either fleeing the scene or returning to it, so they would naturally follow that route.Andrew Zalotockyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08674409759741374623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7493712084606110971.post-15398767032254218702024-03-10T13:22:24.950-07:002024-03-10T13:22:24.950-07:00The Beefsteak Club is well-known to me from my rea...The Beefsteak Club is well-known to me from my reading about London's gentlemen's clubs. It is an interesting story - and always makes me hungry. The 'Comet-strike Theory' seems a good example of people believing what they want, and then making up reasons why others don't believe it, instead of realising they may be wrong. Whether or not all humans had brown eyes before the mutation of the blue, I don't know, but the first blue eyes must have astonished - and perhaps frightened - people at the time.
